What is the Great Start Collaborative?

The Great Start Collaborative (GSC) brings together community leaders, business owners, health and human service agencies, charitable and faith-based organizations, educators, and parents to build and sustain a comprehensive early childhood system. This county-wide network of support and services is dedicated to improving outcomes for young children and their families.

Our Collaborative Efforts:

  • Engaging community partners in planning and coordinating services

  • Addressing the factors that impact a child's readiness for school and life

  • Raising community awareness about early childhood issues

  • Advocating for high-quality early childhood programs and services

These are the shared outcomes we strive to achieve in our Huron County communities as prescribed by the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP)’s Office of Early Childhood Education:

Outcome 1: Children are born healthy

Outcome 2: Children are healthy, thriving, & developmentally on track from birth to third grade

Outcome 3: Children are developmentally ready to succeed in school at the time of school entry

Outcome 4: Children are prepared to succeed in fourth grade & beyond by reading proficiently by the end of third grade

2024-2026 Strategic Plan

Through workshops, discussions, and collaboration, we have harnessed the collective wisdom of our diverse membership to create a roadmap that reflects the unique strengths and challenges of our community.
