Untied Way

United Way’s 211 services can connect you to existing resources by providing referrals for food and housing assistance, family support services, health and wellness, and more. Access support for free 24/7/365 by calling 211 or texting your zip code to 898 211.

2-1-1 Northeast Michigan provides Northeast Michigan with referrals and information to assist with essential needs. Currently, 211 Northeast Michigan is responsible for providing 2-1-1 services to 23 counties in Northeast Michigan, including Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola County.

Financial Assistance

MI Bridges: State of Michigan Assistance

You may qualify for state assistance with groceries, child care expenses, and medical care coverage. Use the online application to apply for multiple benefits: health care coverage (Healthy Michigan Plan, Medicaid, and MI Child), food, cash and child care assistance, and emergency services. State Emergency Relief & Weatherization Assistance Program: Department of Health and Human Services

This program is for families facing extreme hardship or emergencies that threaten health and safety. You may qualify for emergency relief assistance if you are usually able to make ends meet but have found yourself in an unexpected emergency situation. For ongoing reduction in your energy expenses check out the weatherization assistance program.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC): Huron County Health Department

  • Provides supplemental foods that promote good health for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children up to the age of five.

Health Insurance Marketplace

  • The Health Insurance Marketplace is a service that helps people and families in the United States compare and enroll in health insurance plans. It's also known as the "exchange".

Social Security Administration

  • The Social Security Administration administers retirement, disability, survivor, and family benefits, and enrolls individuals in Medicare. They also provide Social Security Numbers, which are unique identifiers needed to work, handle financial transactions, and determine eligibility for certain government services.

  • GST Michigan Works! is one of sixteen (16) Michigan Works! agencies across the State of Michigan operating workforce development programs designed to assist employers in finding skilled workers and job seekers to prepare for, find, and retain employment.

Housing Assistance

Human Development Commission

  • For those who find themselves homeless, HDC operates several programs to assist with temporary or permanent housing solutions. All individuals and families must be assessed by the Housing Assessment and Resource Agency and prioritized for placement within the program

Project Home

  • Provides support services to very low-income veterans who are facing homelessness: finding affordable housing; budget planning assistance; temporary financial assistance; and referrals for other community services.

Emergency Service Grant

  • Assists singles/families that are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless with eviction notices and utility shut-off notices. 

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher

  • Assist homeless singles/families who are losing their place to stay with applying for Section 8 housing.
